WOLF Announces New Ultra Low-Latency MXC2 Module

Small Rugged Form Factor for Capture, Process and Display

Stouffville, Ontario, September 13, 2018 - WOLF Advanced Technology ("WOLF") is pleased to announce the MXC2-FGX (WOLF-7080), which is a small form factor video capture, process and display module that is capable of subframe latency. The engine that drives this module is WOLF’s Frame Grabber eXtreme (FGX). The FGX accepts multiple digital and analog video inputs and provides conversion from one format to another. The data output from each channel can be streamed with subframe latency to the host system or to a GPU for analysis, enhancement, encode, display or storage.

Military video capture and Conversion
The WOLF-7080 is an MXC2-FGX Small Form Factor Module for Video Capture and Conversion

“This MXC2 board gives our military and aerospace customers a military grade video capture mezzanine board for existing 3U VPX and 6UVPX carriers, that supports 3G-SDI video in addition to analog formats,” said Craig McLaren, CEO of WOLF. “Our MXC2 design also leaves room for future product flexibility that can include additional functionality for video capture, process, encode and display.”

Please see the MXC2-FGX (WOLF-7080) product page for more detailed information.

The Future of MXC2: Machine Vision, PCI Gen 4, and 4K Video

The MXC2 was designed with the future in mind, to allow new MXC2 products to support machine vision processing, PCI Gen 4, and 4K video, using the same form factor and connector.

Multiple Simultaneous Video Inputs and Outputs

The MXC2-FGX module can capture multiple simultaneous HD-SDI, 3G-SDI, DisplayPort and analog inputs, and can also accept video sources from a PCIe DMA stream. The module can covert the inputs in real-time to multiple HD-SDI, 3G-SDI and analog outputs. The MXC2-FGX improves the previous generation MXC-FGX module by increasing the number of SDI inputs (from 2 to 4), by increasing the number of analog inputs (from 2 to 3), and by the addition of 3 analog outputs.

Cost-Effective MCOTS Customization

The WOLF FGX high-performance engine also provides the flexibility required for fast, cost-effective MCOTS customization, allowing the module to be modified to interface with many additional video formats or system hosts.

SWaP Considerations for Military and Aerospace Applications

This module is a small 80mm x 68mm form factor, with a rugged 400-pin connector on the bottom of the board, which provides even more space saving when compared to a module with an edge connector. The module has a low operating power of under 10 watts, and an extended operating temperature range of -40° to +85°C for military grade performance.

WOLF manufactures these modules in North America with full component traceability. The design uses component derating which meets or exceeds NASA and Rome Labs specifications for reliability. Conformal coating options are available for this module.
