WOLF-15R0

3U VPX RTM for WOLF-1570 with 4× SFP+ cages (12G-SDI or ARINC 818), MiniDP out, dual CVBS in

Overview

WOLF-15R0

3U VPX Rear Transition Module for WOLF-1570

The VPX3U-RTM-VIO provides rear I/O breakout for the 3U VPX WOLF-1570, bringing video and service interfaces to the rear of the chassis for simpler integration and maintenance.

The design includes four SFP+ cages that accept either HD-BNC or optical transceiver modules. Each transceiver module supports one transmit and one receive channel simultaneously, enabling either SDI connectivity up to 12 Gbps (via dual HD-BNC) or ARINC 818 connectivity up to 10 Gbps (via dual optical connectors), depending on the populated modules.

Additional rear interfaces include a Mini DisplayPort video output and dual CVBS inputs, along with common management and service connections used during system bring-up and field support.

Block Diagram

The block diagram shows a 3U VPX RTM that mates to the WOLF-1570, highlighting the rear I/O breakout paths for high-speed video (via SFP+ cages) and auxiliary display/analog interfaces. It emphasizes how the RTM routes the payload module’s video I/O to rear connectors for system integration and test access.

FAQ

WOLF-15R0 is a rear transition module (RTM): it does not create new compute or video capability by itself—it routes and breaks out the payload module’s I/O to the rear of the VPX chassis.

WOLF-15R0 is intended to simplify:

  • Rear cabling and maintainability
  • Integration of high-speed video I/O through the backplane/RTM instead of front-panel harnessing
  • Field support by placing service interfaces at the rear

It is designed specifically to mate with WOLF-1570 for rear I/O breakout.

The RTM includes four SFP+ cages that accept either HD-BNC or optical transceiver modules.

Each transceiver supports one TX and one RX simultaneously, and the populated module determines the protocol:

  • SDI up to 12 Gbps (via dual HD-BNC)
  • ARINC 818 up to 10 Gbps (via dual optical)

Decide early:

  • Electrical HD-BNC vs optical (cabling, distance, EMI, maintenance)
  • Channel count allocation across the four cages
  • Whether you need SDI or ARINC 818 for the deployed sensor/display ecosystem

High-value RTM checks include:

  • Payload/RTM compatibility: confirm the paired payload (WOLF-1570) I/O mapping matches the RTM routing
  • Transceiver qualification: validate the specific HD-BNC or optical transceiver modules you plan to populate
  • Signal integrity / channel margin: verify link stability at the target data rates (12G-SDI or ARINC 818)
  • Cabling and serviceability: confirm rear connector access, bend radius, and maintenance workflow in the chassis

RTMs often fail late due to cabling assumptions, so treat harness selection as an engineering deliverable, not an afterthought.

RTMs are frequently ordered as configuration-driven items (for example, SFP+ cage population and transceiver choices).
